The 2024 edition of the annual Oba Adeboruwa Cup in honour of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, will commence on Friday, September 13, at the U.A.M.C. (Eleja) Primary School, Igbogbo.
The tournament, which heralds the yearly Igbogbo Day Celebration, is being sponsored by the Igbgbo/Bayeku LCDA Chairman, Builder Sesan Daini.
ln the opening match, two teams from Group A, Oliwo Amoju FC and Bashorun FC, will trade tackles, as this year’s tournament promises to be another great experience for the residents of Igbogbo.
ln the second match of the day, the two other teams in Group A – Adeyanlu FC and Triumphant FC, will do battle. The match starts at 5pm.
The Igbogbo Day Sports Committee, led by Mr Obayomi Adeoye, unveiled the fixtures for the tournament during which 32 teams are participating at the weekend during a press conference held at the late Oba Fatola Pavilion located within the Adeboruwa palace.
Mr Obayomi, speaking at the briefing, said that two matches are slated to be played every day of the week except Mondays which will be free days.
He also informed that six matches will be played on Saturdays and Sundays.
While appealing to teams that were well represented at the parley to ensure that their teams arrive at the venue ahead of time for their matches, Mr Obayomi also stated that each team is allowed to register 11 first team players and seven reserves.
He added that each team will be allowed to make seven substitutions so as to give all the players sense of belonging.
A total of 18 players are expected to be registered by each team for the tournament, with six officials (coach, assistant coach, team secretary, medical personnel and two CDA representatives).
